Home away from Home

Disassembling a 20 ton fighter is not for the faint of heart, and for the last few weeks our maintenance team has been planing the logistics of taking apart and transporting the Scorpion. JR and Hal have been pouring over decades old maintenance manuals, learning how to remove the wings and tail of the F-89 and having special tools, cradles and lifting rigs built.

In the maintenance hangar, we are in the process of converting a trailer into a mobile maintenance shop. Because of the size of the F-89, the disassembly will have to take place out in the open on the ramp. And since weather at this time of year in Montana can be unpredictable (it was in the 80s last week, snowed over the weekend, and is in the 50s this week.) the trailer will not only serve to transport all our needed tools, but in the event of inclement weather it will also serve as a shelter for the team.

Mobile maintenance shop. This will be our base of operations in Helena, MT

T-9 days and counting until we hit the road…..
